Futuro by futurowoman Futuro by futurowoman
After shooting my last pack of Polaroid Time-Zero film, I was lucky and I got a new last pack(!), and knew that I had to take advantage and take some photos of this abandoned FUTURO!

My nom de plume, FUTUROWOMAN, derives from this amazing prefab Futuro House, designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen in 1968. This is one of the very rare Futuros that survives, and I was so lucky to see it in its deliciously rusty glory!

I did a 3D model of this house. You can see an animated fly-through on Vimeo here

This is so cool. Reminds me of all the cool roadside attraction stuff on the mid-20th century.

such weird architecture. Nonetheless I think that it was pretty sweet that you got to see one of these.Firelite-photo

It was a great idea at the time, actually the basic concept, an affordable house easy and cheap to build, is something that keeps busy to some architects nowadays.

The Venturo was cool too.

Yes! :) Everyone thinks I am referring to the future generally, but, in fact, I'm referring to this specific building, the Futuro :)

How big were they... the Wicki article has the wrong dimensions I think.

Really fascinating. I've seen a few houses that were no doubt influenced by this concept... but these are so cool.

actually, that article does have the right size; it's in meters, so maybe that's why it seems weird? these are awesome structures; i would love to have one! :)

I would too. I'd want one in my yard up in Michigan!!
I have a friend who has an old, very cool metal trailer on his property. He goes there to read, to study and to paint!

I'd go to the Futuro to feel more even and remind me that I am not alone.

I would like an airstream, even if I couldn't travel in it, just for hanging out :)
